Mr.Hemincuff

Heute wollen wir euch Noel Veloz vorstellen, ein New Yorker Designer den wir durch Instagram kennengelernt haben. Damit auch Ihr etwas über Noel erfahrt haben wir ein Interview mit ihm geführt und ein paar Fragen und Antworten zusammen gestellt.

  
How did you get into design?was there a defining point in your career,and if so, how did it shape you as a designer?

At age 7, My parents purchased my first sketch pad with a set of color pencils. My parents really changed my life with this. I will carry my Sketch-Pad everywhere with me and I will sketch my visions on my blank Canvas. I remember getting detention all the time due to drawing in class. Growing up, I was around my dad always in his room creating garments with his sewing machine. Man that machine made so much noise but my dad was always happy and always making something cool . I had no choice but to sit beside him and watch him master his craft.
 

What lessons have you learned in your career?and how have they changed the way you approach design today?

To tell yourself that you could do anything. Remove that negative voice in your head. It’s all Mental. That’s the main thing people are controlled by! Thoughts- their perception of themselves! They're slowed down by their perception of themselves. If you're taught you can’t do anything, you won’t do anything. I was taught I could do everything. When I see a challenge in the design process, I repeat to myself that I will find a way to figure it out and I hunt for the resources.

What inspires you outside of work?

Life in general. Im grateful for all the little things. I like to sit beside the river, sketch, give the birds food and just lay on the grass. I also like to breathe fresh air and speak to the sun. Yes im weird but man that makes me happy. Oh yea and I admire women lol.

If, in some freaky Friday-situation, you could live the life of anther designer,who would it be and why ?

I would choose Rei Kawakubo From Comme des Garcon. She travels the world and creates Art within her designs. She is literally living her dreams. I admire her work and passion. She even goes to her store and starts moving things around and works with her team. You rarely see the owner of a brand sweating and putting in the work with the team. One quote that sticks with me from her is “Feeling free inside oneself is being free”. From this I learned to live life with no limits and follow your dreams. And finally, what tips would you give to anybody who is looking to get started in design ?

Follow your vision and your heart. Even though your heart is on your left side of your body, its always right!! Never give up, be on your hustle, and keep kicking the door until you get in. You have to be hungry for it. Work hard, network and do research. Learn from the best. Create short term and long term goals and stick to them. The first step is to try !Gain work experience in fashion,Try to land an intern or go to a fashion school. Read books, join linkedin to network and learn from the best.

You have to be crazy to make it.. Take risk !
